Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh the 26th state of Indian Union was carved out of Madhya Pradesh on 1st Nov. 2000. The newly formed State shares borders with Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh , Jharkhand , Orissa and Andhra Pradesh. This predominantly tribal state has over 35big and small tribes and is perhaps the most economically strong region of the country. Chhattisgarh is endowed with rich mineral and forest wealth . The major mineral resources of the state include coal, iron -ore,lime - stone and dolomite (used in cement ). Chhattisgarh also have diamond mines and it is estimated that Deobhog area in Raipur district if successfully exploited can provide large revenue ti the state.
Chhatttisgarh has a potential of become an important industrial center. Most of the power generating units of Madhya Pradesh are now a part of Chhattisgarh. Other major industries are steel plant at Bhilai and aiuminium plant at korba. sarguja,Raigarh and Bilaspur are also emerging fastly as important industrial centres. There are also several cement factories and many ancillary units in the State. The State immense forest cover is a safe haven for wildlife and fine game reserves are located here. Chhattisgarh is also a major wheat producing region of the country.
