Almora

Almora District is a picturesque region in Kumaon, situated east of Uttarakhand. Almora has a breathtaking panoramic view of the Himalayas. Almora town is the district headquarters. It is well known for its healthy climate, as it is situated at an altitude of 5400 ft. on a saddle-shaped ridge of the Kashaya hill. Almora is the cultural centre of Kumaon. Once the summer capital of the Chand Rajas of Kumaon, the town has historical and cultural remnants of the glorious past. Located at an altitude of 1,646 m above see level, the hill resort is much more Indian in atmosphere than the other hill resorts in the area.
