Chamoli

Chamoli - the birthplace of the `Chipko' movement, is one of the hill districts of Uttarakhand. Gopeshwar is the district headquarters. Gopeshwar is a picturesque township situated amid beautiful mountain ranges, terrace farms and small lakes in Uttarakhand. According to legend, Gopeshwar is where Lord Shiva had reduced Kamadeva into ashes.Perched at an altitude of 1308 m, Gopeshwar is fast becoming a major attraction for tourists owing to its natural beauty and fresh and serene atmosphere. Main attractions in the town include an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Vaitarni Kund, a group of temples without idols and Oak View. Gopeshwar is 10 km north-west of Chamoli town.
