PithoragarhPithoragarh is the eastern-most district of Kumaon, bordered by Tibet on the north and Nepal on the east. Many rivers originate from the Pithoragarh mountains situated here, which are covered with dense forest and house a wide variety of animals and birds. It also serves as a treasure house for mountaineers, botanists and religious minded tourists.Pithoragarh town - the district headquarters - is situated in a small valley. Popularly known as the Soar Valley, it lies at the centre of four hills - Chandak, Dhwaj, Thal Kedar and Kundar. This region is very picturesque and is often referred to as `Mini Kashmir'. Pithoragarh was once the stronghold of the Chand kings, and there are temples and a ruined fort here. Pithoragarh town is en route the sacred trail to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar
