Tehri Garhwal

Tehri Garhwal, one of the westernmost districts of Uttarakhand is located on the outer ranges of the Himalayas. A major portion is hilly tract. The major tourist destinations are Buda Kedarnath temple, Deoprayag, Kunjapuri, Khatling glacier, Narendra Nagar, Chamba, Omkarananda Kamakshi Devi Mandir, Dhanaulti and Nagtibba. New Tehri is the district headquarters. New Tehri is a newly established master-planned township that came into existence after the old Tehri Town got submerged in the dam project across River Bhagirathi. New Tehri now stands as an icon of progressive development and Asia's most comprehensive resettlement exercise that has ever been undertaken. It is located just 11 km from the hill town of Mussorie. From New Tehri, one could catch a sweeping view of the snow capped Himalayas and the enchanting Bhagirathi valley. Boating facilities are available at the catchment area of the Dam.
